The Institute of Hospitality is proud to partner with STR to launch the first ever Europe Student Market Study Competition. The launch follows a successful US edition of the competition in New York City last year with 33 teams competing in the finals.
Hospitality management students and lecturers from universities and colleges worldwide are now invited to enter teams to compete in the Europe Market Study Competition. A US$1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the winning team.
Teams (3 to 6 students with 1 to 3 faculty advisors) will choose cities/markets on a first come first served basis. No two teams will be allowed to present on the same market. Markets may be anywhere in the world. A US$200 entry fee is required.
A “How to Conduct a Market Study” training PowerPoint will be sent to the faculty advisor for schools/teams interested in entering the competition.
A standard set of reports and other supporting information about the markets will be made available via Dropbox; however, teams may use additional data obtained from sources other than STR.
Teams may also include insights and input from other industry professionals (e.g. local hoteliers, the tourism bureau, etc.) as long as they are properly sourced in their presentation. Schools may request up to five (5) additional reports from STR to help in their Market Study.
All teams will be required to deliver a 30 minute presentation on Sunday 3 November at the University of West London.
- 5 August – Having submitted their first, second and third choices, cities/ markets are assigned to teams on a ‘first come first served basis’ with no two teams allowed to deliver on the same market.
- 19 August – STR will post reports and data for all markets selected to Dropbox with access link sent to advising professor/faculty member.
- 3 November – Teams will present at the University of West London and the winners will be revealed. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the awards reception.
