Professional Development is key confirms ‘Future Skills Report’

24 April 2023

The ‘Future Skills Report’ published by eHotelier, in association with the IoH, points to professional development being a critical part of a hospitality business’s future strategy.

The recent industry survey looked to identify the type of industry skills needed and gain insight into understanding the educational, training and professional development need in a post-pandemic industry. With existing economic uncertainty, staff shortages, declining consumer confidence and questioning of current business models, the industry is again being challenged.

Sam Coulstock FIH, IoH Head of Professional Development said: “The research findings in the ‘Future Skills Report’, emphasise that recruitment and retention will remain one of the biggest issues facing the industry over the next 5 years. If the hospitality industry is to successfully manage the needs of a changing world and operating environment, professional development will play a critical part in a future hospitality business’s strategy. There is no doubt about it.”

As the global professional body for the hospitality industry, the Institute of Hospitality works hard to help ensure its members have every opportunity to access professional development resources that will help lift industry standards, provide career opportunities and nurture talent.

As Sam confirms: “The research project, in partnership with e-Hotelier, clearly emphasises the important role that research plays in helping to identify and shape the future skills needed by the hospitality industry. It now provides us with a strong foundation from which to tackle and overcome the skills issues we face industry-wide.”
