The Mentor Me scheme wouldn’t be possible without such an inspiring team of mentors who do so much to support younger members of our industry. With National Mentoring Day taking place tomorrow we wanted to hear from some of them. It’s time to put Francisco Macedo FIH in the mentoring hot seat.
Why did you decide to get involved in Mentor Me?
Mentor Me is a great programme that allows us to help in shaping the leaders of tomorrow whilst contributing to our own mission of giving back to the industry.
What have you enjoyed most about being a mentor?
The moments of joy are immense, but the feeling of being able to help someone in achieving their goal is what makes me happy.
Has it helped you to develop your own skills?
Definitely! A crucial part of becoming a leader is understanding how the different generations see things and how they can make a difference on our organisations. Being a mentor has provided me with unique insight into the different generations. New perspectives lead to fresh ideas and fresh ideas will help you in developing yourself.
What’s the best piece of advice you have given your mentee?
Don’t make your choices based only on the company you will work for, the person you will work with is the most important factor as they will be directly responsible for your development.
What would you say to someone considering getting involved?
You are late? Seriously, do it! The satisfaction of helping others to achieve their goals is one that you cannot replace.
