Institute signs Disability Employment Charter

17 July 2026

We are delighted to confirm that the Institute has signed the Disability Employment Charter, a national initiative promoting greater inclusion, accessibility, and opportunities for disabled people in the workplace.

By signing the Charter, the Institute has demonstrated its support for practical action that helps create more accessible workplaces, broadens access to talent and encourages inclusive employment practices that benefit both people and organisations across the hospitality industry.

Institute of Hospitality CEO, Robert Richardson FIH MI said: “Signing the Disability Employment Charter reflects our values and reinforces our ambition to help create an accessible and inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to develop and achieve their professional potential. By supporting the Charter, we are helping to promote a more inclusive future for our profession.”

The Charter has now been signed by more than 300 organisations across the UK, including businesses, charities such as Mind, public bodies and advocacy groups, demonstrating a shared commitment to improving disability employment and workplace inclusion.

The Institute’s DEIB Council Chair, Mark Grant MIH commented: “I am delighted that the Institute of Hospitality is giving its support to the Disability Employment Charter. It demonstrates an ongoing commitment to facilitating career opportunities and professional standards. Furthermore, it highlights our belief that the hospitality industry is enriched when it is accessible to people from all backgrounds and circumstances, regardless of perceived limitations.”
