World Mental Health Day 2022 | Prof. Peter A. Jones MBE FIH MBE FIH gives us an insight into Crumbs

10 October 2022

Prof. Peter A. Jones MBE FIH is the Chair of the Professional Review Panel responsible for accreditation and endorsement activity and an IoH Fellow.

As Chair of Crumbs, a small Bournemouth-based charity that provides hospitality education and training for adults with learning and mental health disabilities, he understands the reality of their situations, which they face on a day-to-day basis.

At a recent Crumbs open-lunch event, Peter put on his chef’s whites and helped Bethany, a Crumb’s trainee make bread-and-butter pudding. Peter explained: “It has been some years since I last wore my whites, but I’m pleased that many of those hard-earned chef’s skills had not deserted me.”

Commenting on the dessert-making techniques, Head of Professional Training, Lee Whalley, was not entirely convinced that they needed quite as much double cream for the recipe. However, he did admit that the end result was extremely good and was much appreciated by the guests.

Peter said: “Working with Bethany and the other trainees at Crumbs is a very rewarding experience. It makes you aware of the challenges that people with this range of disabilities face in their everyday lives. That is why we are here and do what we do, to improve their lives and help them toward independent living and employment.”

The Crumbs Project won the IoH Gregory De La Pena-Hall MIH Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Employer of the Year Award 2022. To learn more about the amazing work Crumbs does, please click here.
