Navigating Economic Challenges White Paper published

30 July 2026

Our latest CPD white paper, ‘Navigating Economic Challenges,’ sponsored by CHME and based on the round table discussion held at Newcastle Airport Aspire Lounge, UK,  has been released today and tackles major issues being felt across the hospitality sector in the north of England.

The north of England has faced several economic hurdles in recent years; rising inflation has driven up the cost of essentials like goods, energy, and labour, while ongoing supply chain disruptions have made it difficult to maintain inventory levels and consistent service.

At the same time, many businesses are still grappling with the lasting effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly around staffing and fluctuating demand. These challenges are further compounded by unpredictable shifts in consumer spending on travel and leisure.

Joining the Institute to discuss these issues and possible solutions were:

  • Isabel Hargreaves MIH, head of membership sales, Institute of Hospitality (Chair)
  • Graham Allen MIH, head of lounges UK & Ireland, Aspire Executive Lounges
  • Jo Bates MIH, operations manager, UK & Ireland, Aspire Executive Lounges
  • Will Blackwell, F&B manager, lounges, Aspire Executive Lounges
  • Lisa Bright MIH, membership executive, Institute of Hospitality
  • John Lambourne-Richardson FIH, general manager, Hampton by Hilton Stockton-on-Tees
  • Roxanne McKale, lounge manager, Newcastle Airport Aspire Lounge

The Institute of Hospitality CPD Round Tables are designed to bring Institute members and the wider hospitality community together to discuss regional challenges and produce a white paper on specific topics that present a problem, alongside possible solutions.

The IoH CPD Round Tables are held nationally across the UK and outside London, allowing IoH members to participate in critical discussions.

This White Paper is sponsored by CHME. Special thanks to our Business Partners, Aspire Airport Lounges for hosting and actively participating in our latest round table in the north of England.
