The International Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI) Sommelier diploma certification exam is being held in the UK for the first time on Monday 4 March 2019 in London.
What is the opportunity for UK based sommeliers?
A unique opportunity to be recognised worldwide as having a high level of knowledge and skills. Those who pass the exam in 2019 will become part of an elite group of international sommeliers.
ASI certified sommeliers include Master Sommelier Eric Zwiebel, owner of the Summer Lodge Hotel in Dorset. Indeed, Eric is the only platinum level holder of the certification.
What specific benefits does certification give to sommeliers?
The exam was established to standardise the level of sommeliers internationally and certification is a valuable asset for a sommelier’s CV, allowing them to work worldwide with proof of their excellence.
On Monday 4 March 2019 at the Oriental Club in London, ASI, in association with the Academy of Food & Wine Service and the Institute of Hospitality, will offer the International ASI Sommelier diploma certification exam to local sommeliers. This is a unique opportunity for UK based sommeliers to gain international accreditation.
Who can enter?
Applicants must be working Sommeliers (in restaurants, wine bars, wine retail, distribution etc), with at least four years’ sommelier experience.
How does the exam work?
The exam is made up of two stages – a written exam and oral and practical tests – and is completed in one day between 9.00am and 4.00pm.
What are the costs?
£290 plus VAT, which covers ASI registration and certification.
Candidates are also responsible for their own travel and associated costs to attend the exam in London on Monday 4 March 2019.
