Dassanayake, who is a well-known industry professional with over 40 years of experience in the Travel, Tourism & Hospitality industry, is a successful entrepreneur, operating Sunway Holidays a Destination Management Company since 1993, and Diamond Leisure since 2011. He also owns and operates The Grand Oceanpark, one of the largest and the best restaurants along the hotel road in Negombo.
Confirming his appointment, the Institute’s CEO Robert Richardson FIH MI said: “ We are delighted to have Ramesh on board driving the work of the Institute internationally and supporting our many members in Sri Lanka. With Ramesh’s enthusiasm, skill set and board-level experience, I look forward to the IoH Sri Lanka Region thriving in the year ahead.”
Dassanayake, a member of the Institute’s College of Fellows, has served as Vice Chairman of the IoH Sri Lanka Region for the last two years.
He also serves as the President of his two Alma Maters; the Colombo branch of the Old Boys Associator of Maris Stella College, Negombo and Sri Lanka’s largest Postgraduate Alumni, The Postgraduate Institute of Management Alumni (PIMA).
Taking the role of IoH Sri Lanka Region Chair, Dassanayake commented: “ I am delighted to take this role and work with the Institute to support our local members in Sri Lanka. There is a thriving hospitality industry in the country and with my experience and passion for the industry and the work of the Institute of Hospitality, as the global professional organisation for hospitality professionals, I hope will allow me to extend the Institute’s membership and deliver lots of exciting educational activities to our dedicated local members.”
Dassanayake is also a professional member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID), Organization of Professional Associations (OPA) & Institute of Management Sri Lanka (IMSL) and is currently reading for his Doctoral Degree in Business Administration.
