NAW 2024 | Skills For Life – Supporting hospitality apprenticeships

6 February 2024

The Institute is delighted to support the UK Government’s Department for Education National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) which runs from 5 to 11 February 2024.

Actively encouraging young people to consider apprenticeship training, the week focuses on ‘Skills for Life’ and aims to raise the profile of apprenticeships as a meaningful career path.

As Sam Coulstock FIH, the Institute of Hospitality’s  Head of Professional Development, explains: “Apprenticeships offer numerous benefits for both the apprentice and the employer. For the apprentice, it provides an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, learn practical skills, and earn a wage simultaneously. This allows them to avoid student debt while developing the skills needed for their chosen career path” confirms Sam.

The Institute’s CEO Robert Richardson FIH MI also pointed out: “Hospitality apprentices make up a large proportion of our IoH hospitality family. There are some incredibly talented young people out there. Not all excel in the classroom, but they have a host of untapped attributes that just need to be harnessed. Apprenticeships provide the opportunity to capture and nurture those talents and build the future leaders for our industry.”

Sam confirms that many apprentices are members of the Institute. “We work with Apprenticeship Training providers, most notably HIT Training, who receive Institute membership as part of their learning package. This means they can access a wealth of professional resources, such as our mentoring and CPD programmes, to help them develop personally and professionally. By investing in the development of Apprentices, your organisation is ultimately investing in the success and growth of a skilled workforce and contributing to the overall prosperity of the hospitality profession” he concluded.

To celebrate the wealth of talented apprentices and apprenticeship providers within the industry, the Institute of Hospitality will be joining the Hospitality Showcase at the House of Commons, London on Wednesday 7 February.
