Mental Health Awareness Week 15-21 May 2023

15 May 2023

In Mental Health Awareness Week from 15 -21 May 2023, the IoH is helping to raise the profile of self-care and well-being to help us make a critical difference to the welfare of those around us.

In the Hospitality Industry, the need to recognise the impact of workplace stress and anxiety is increasing and changing. This year the campaign focuses on anxiety.

As Dorothea Jones MIH, IoH EDI Lead explains: “The industry is known for high staff turnover, and employees are often subject to weekend work, demanding shift patterns, and long days standing. This can lead to a high-stress and anxiety fuelled environment. So, it’s vital to prioritise employee well-being to ensure healthy, happy teams. As they in turn will provide better customer experiences, be more productive and are more likely to remain in the industry.”

With mental health being discussed more frequently across the industry, it’s important to appreciate that mental health is just as important as physical health.

The IoH has a number of resources available to its members including a Fellows Broadsheet on ‘Boosting Mental Health in Hospitality’,  The Burnt Chef Webinar (on-demand) and a wealth of resources in our free IoH Members’ Library
