The Institute of Hospitality has confirmed endorsement for the ‘Certificate for Front of House Services in Events’ training course offered by The Clink Events.
The Certificate for Front of House Services in Events course is designed to provide basic training for disadvantaged young people (aged 18 and over) as service staff at external events, organised and run by The Clink Events. The participants in the training programme are young people who are recommended for the scheme by charities who work with The Clink Events, such as Centrepoint.
The aim of the programme is to equip learners with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work as service staff (Front of House) in hospitality, focussing on events. Delivered on-the-job during 20 to 25 shifts of events over 12 weeks, learners will be taught basic food and beverage service skills, how to comply with health and safety, correct manual handling techniques, and will learn about allergens in order to reduce the risk of harm to themselves and to others. When a learner has completed the course, they will be professionally introduced to agencies that will be able to provide further employment opportunities and Continuing Professional Development.
The Institute’s Professional Review Panel recognised and commended the development of the programme in extending the reach of The Clink Charity by providing training and development opportunities for disadvantaged individuals, to attain the skills to be able to enter employment in the Events industry. The Panel further commended the programme and, in particular:
- Identifying potential learners via the involvement of national charities.
- Providing opportunities for learners to acquire some knowledge and practical skills in an events working environment.
- The development of the learner’s CV.
- Establishing contacts for the learners with professional events organisations with a view to employment.
Jonny Whitfield Managing Director at The Clink Events said: “We are thrilled to have our Certificate for Front of House Services in Events course endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality. Not only does this give our charitable partners confidence in our training, it gives our learners the opportunity to showcase their achievement. The Clink Charity’s mission is to reduce reoffending and support those at risk of offending, which through our course, endorsed by the IoH, and the work opportunities provided with The Clink Events via our venue partners, gives an invaluable experience for our vulnerable young adults and is key to fulfilling our charity’s mission.”
IoH CEO Robert Richardson FIH MI added: “The Institute has long been a supporter of the fantastic work The Clink Charity does, so I am delighted that we are endorsing this course offered by The Clink Events, giving less privileged young people the chance to learn the key skills to become front of house hospitality professionals.”
