Sir David Michels FIH became president of the Institute of Hospitality in February 2012.  He is currently the chairman of his own asset management company, Michels & Taylor and chairman of London & Capital. He is also a board member of Strategic Hotels and Resorts, Jumeirah Hotels and The Savoy, London. 

Having spent over 40 years in the hotel and gaming business, he retired in 2007 having sold Hilton International, where he was group chief executive, to Hilton Hotels Corporation for £4 billion.

Prior to Hilton, he was chief executive of Stakis, which he joined in 1990 and sold some nine years later to Ladbrokes for £1.2 billion. Sir David’s previous experience included executive president worldwide marketing for Hilton, managing director of Hilton UK and prior to that, some 17 years in various hotel positions around the world with Grand Metropolitan. He was knighted for services to the hotel and catering industry in 2006.
