Putting Accessibility on Your 2021 Agenda

Putting Accessibility on Your 2021 Agenda | Institute of Hospitality

How hospitality businesses can benefit from the purple pound and improve experiences for disabled guests.

Taking good care of customers comes naturally to everyone working in hospitality, but are you doing enough to attract and look after disabled customers? When you consider that more than 1 in 5 potential UK consumers have a disability, this has been described by accessibility experts as the most untapped market in hospitality. Average spend per disabled household is estimated to be higher and average length of stays are longer so there are many business and commercial benefits. However, most importantly, putting more emphasis on accessibility is simply the right thing to do as we believe every single person should be able to enjoy incredible hospitality experiences.

Our panel will be hosted by Karen Fewell whose father, Arnold Fewell, a former hotelier, created Access Champ to improve accessibility training in hospitality.

The accessibility panel will also include:

  • Ross Calladine: Head of Business Support, VisitEngland
  • Mark Lewis: Chief Executive, Hospitality Action
  • Michael McGrath DL. FRSA: Disability Champion & CEO of The Muscle Help Foundation
  • Robin Sheppard FIH: President, Bespoke Hotels
