We are proud to share that our business partner Belu has been honoured with the King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development this year.
The award marks another milestone in their journey of sustainable innovation. This prestigious award follows their previous recognition with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development and Innovation in 2019.
Belu’s mission is to change the way the world sees water. They do this by offering a range of products including filtration systems, mineral water, and tonics and mixers, all designed to promote the use of refillables and reduce waste. Their commitment goes beyond just providing drinks; it’s about fostering a mindset shift towards more sustainable habits and behaviours.
For instances where refillable bottles aren’t an option, Belu provides mineral water in recycled plastic and lightweight, ethically made glass bottles. These bottles are produced locally in the UK to minimise carbon emissions and are not exported.
In 2021, Belu made a significant move away from carbon offsetting, opting instead to invest in nature-based solutions across the UK. Through partnerships with organisations like Rivers Trust, Thames21, and Blue Marine Foundation, Belu is actively involved in preserving and restoring natural waterways and ecosystems.
Belu leverages the power of business to drive positive change, dedicating 100% of their net profits to WaterAid annually since 2011. These contributions support global initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goals 6, 12, 13, 14, and 17.
Receiving the King’s Award for Enterprise is a testament to Belu’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. They remain dedicated to transforming the world’s approach to water, supporting entrepreneurship and social enterprise, and collaborating with change-makers to build a sustainable future.
