Well known Sussex restaurateur and hospitality campaigner, Shah F. Athar MIH was awarded a Special Recognition Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Catering Industry through Leadership and Inspiration’.
The presentation was made by Asian Catering Federation Chairmen, Yawar Khan, Thomas Chan DL, Teddy Chen, Paul Scully MP, Minister for London and Small Businesses and BBC host Kate Silverton.
The award is in recognition for his continuing campaign work and lobbying with the government to address the staff and skills shortages currently facing the hospitality industry as a whole, as well as numerous other issues. A lot of his campaign work is done through the trade body, UK Curry Connect. Part of inspiring a new generation of chefs led him to take a team of diverse chefs and students from the UK to the Culinary World Cup 2018 in Luxembourg, where they returned with seven medals, including gold! He is looking forward to taking another team in 2022 and is open to sponsors.
Shah is no stranger to awards, having previously won Sussex Express Business Person of the Year 2008 and Sussex Express Best Place to Eat.
The Asian Restaurant of The Year 2021 regional winners was: South East England – Tarana, Turners Hill; South of England – India Gate, Chichester and The Rajdani in Sevenoaks for the Home Counties region.
