Upon graduation, budding hospitality leaders join a global family of over 1,000 alumni in breaking barriers and shaping trends in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

How do you help attract people to build a career in hospitality?

The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management continues to be a beacon for those looking to ignite their passion for hospitality leadership. By offering business degrees with an emphasis on hospitality, students learn the higher-order thinking, commercial, and leadership theory required to succeed – applying them through a series of real-world opportunities offered to them by us in the form of internships, consultancy projects, and networking possibilities. It is no wonder that graduates enjoy a 97% employment rate and go on to occupy global leadership roles in hospitality and beyond.

What has been your biggest success story?

We have had a long line of success stories, with graduates breaking barriers and shaping trends in hospitality and related industries. Hoick is a B2B SaaS company that was a direct result of us being the MENA region’s first hospitality start-up incubator. Hoick’s concept of reputation management powered by data mining was brought to life with the guidance of Dr Sanjay Nadkarni, our Director of Innovation and Research. The start-up has since gone on to revolutionise the world of business analytics through unlocking experience potential.

What do you think is the ideal recipe to encourage learning and self-development?

Our secret to encouraging learning and self-development in our students is a tailored recipe that fits the passions, interests, and learning styles of each student. Our 1:15 staff to student ratio ensures that each student receives a personalised education experience from our renowned faculty. Acting as mentors as opposed to lecturers, our faculty provide opportunities and tailor their deliveries to suit each student. These relationships extend beyond graduation, as we understand that learning and self-development extend beyond the confines of campus.

Identify three personality traits that students should have to succeed in hospitality and explain why they are the most important.

Passion-led: Hospitality and service-based industries are passion-led, and a passion for hospitality is integral in developing the right attitudes to thrive in hospitality.

Globally-Minded: In an increasingly connected world, a global mindset is integral in being able to empathise with future colleagues and customers and to thrive in a global environment.

Agile: In line with rapid developments in the areas of technology and innovation, agility is crucial in being able to keep up with the industry’s ever-evolving trends.

In a milestone for women in the region, our alumnus and current MBA student Sharihan Al Mashary was appointed the General Manager of Manzil Downtown, becoming Dubai’s first female Emirati GM. In another record-breaking success story, our alumnus Kai Schukowski became the youngest General Manager in the history of Kempinski Hotels when promoted as the 30-year old General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Ajman here in the UAE.

Which aspects of your membership of the Institute have been the most useful to you, your establishment, and your students?

The Institute of Hospitality’s accreditation of our degrees is crucial in attracting passionate and talented students and enhances EAHM’s standing as a leading educator in hospitality management.
