New Fellows: Liz McGivern FIH, Vice President of People & Culture, Red Carnation Hotels

23 January 2019

New Fellows: Liz McGivern FIH, Vice President of People & Culture, Red Carnation Hotels | Institute of HospitalityLiz McGivern FIH is one of our newest Fellows. With a worldwide remit based in London, Liz works for all 17 luxury hotels in the Red Carnation Collection: in Florida, Ireland, South Africa, Geneva, Guernsey, Dorset and London, with more hotels planned in the future.

What does Red Carnation have planned this year?

We are planning our second ever global People & Culture conference in London in March and will be joined by all the teams who will be participating, contributing, sharing best practice and discussing topical, company-wide issues.  We are also organising our Staff Appreciation Party where we are joined by our colleagues from out of London too, flying in from everywhere to celebrate success and recognise those who went above and beyond the call of duty in 2018!  Our Founder and President, Mrs Tollman and all the Tollman family take a personal interest in our global team and like to thank each of us for a job well done, our loyalty and commitment.

And for you personally?

I am trying to get out and about even more this year to talk to educational establishments up and down the country about what a brilliant opportunity a career in hospitality is, trying to attract talent to the industry even though Universities seem to be dropping away from teaching hospitality at degree level now.  I firmly believe we all have a role to play in talking to people about hospitality and encouraging people to join the industry in the position that suits them best, as there’s something for everyone, isn’t there?!  I will also be investing a lot of my time in our Degree Apprentices who are studying and working with us, ensuring they are happy and successful!

How does it feel to be a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality?

I was both surprised and delighted to be called by Paul Gilley FIH about becoming a Fellow and look forward to meeting others! I hope to contribute to the cause in any way I can.

Liz McGivern FIH will be celebrating at The Fellows’ Dinner on Tuesday 12 February 2019 at The Savoy London. If you would like to attend the event also, book online or call the Events team on + 44 (0)20 8661 4904.
