IoH President Lord Thurso to address Fellows’ Dinner 2023

To continue the Institute’s 85-year celebrations, The Rt Hon. the Viscount Thurso FIH MI, President of the Institute of Hospitality will be the keynote speaker at this year’s prestigious Fellows’ Dinner, at The Honourable Artillery Company in the city of London.

Taking place on 19 October 2023, the candle-lit dinner welcomes new Fellows into the Institute and will provide guests with the rare opportunity to be welcomed by the Light Cavalry performing a carpet guard, before guests enter the historic Long Room overlooking the five-acre Artillery Garden for dinner.

Confirming the news, IoH CEO Robert Richardson FIH MI said: “During our 85th anniversary year, I am delighted that our President will be addressing our College of Fellows at our very special 2023 Fellows’ Dinner. Lord Thurso’s presence alongside the history and grandeur of the Honourable Artillery Company, will undoubtedly create an incredible night for our new and existing Fellows and help us bring to a close another momentous year in the history of the Institute.”

Lord Thurso FIH MI has a long and distinguished career in the hospitality industry. He was Managing Director of the Savoy Group’s Lancaster 5 Star Hotel in Paris at the age of 27 before progressing to lead a number of hospitality businesses including East Sussex National Golf Course, Champneys and Cliveden, which under his leadership, became the UK’s highest rated hotels.

He has served as a non-executive member on a number of public company boards and is Chairman of the family company in Caithness. In 2016 he was appointed Chair of Visit Scotland and serves as an Ex-Officio Board Member of Visit Britain. He was awarded a ‘Catey’ for services to Tourism in 2003, is President of the Tourism Society, a Fellow of The Institute of Hospitality and a Master Innholder.

Serving in the House of Lords as a hereditary peer until 1999, he was MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross in the House of Commons until 2015 and returned to the House of Lords in 2016.

The Institute’s Fellows’ Dinner 2023 is open to Fellows of the Institute and this year also welcomes the Institute’s MIH designated members.
