That’s why they’re thrilled to share that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved their near-term science-based emissions reduction target. This signifies their dedication to taking immediate action to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
This target was approved using a streamlined target validation route exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Keenan Recycling commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions by at least 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.
What is the SBTi?
The SBTi is a leading organisation that helps companies set clear and achievable goals to combat climate change. Their science-based targets align with the latest climate science and are crucial for limiting global warming to 1.5°C, a critical threshold to avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change.
What does this mean for Keenan Recycling?
Through the SBTi, Keenan Recycling have established an approved near-term science-based target for reducing their GHG emissions. Near-term targets outline the amount by which organisations will reduce their emissions, usually over the next 5-10 years. These targets help galvanise the action required for significant emission reductions to be achieved by 2030.
