I’m In Podcast Special: Overcoming adversity available 16 June 2022

In a special edition of our I’m In Podcast, Phil Street FIH was joined by our present and past chairs, Kellie Rixon MBE FIH and Robin Sheppard FIH, to discuss, Adversity.

As Phil explained: “It was once said that adversity comes to us all and I think it’s fair to say that the last two years have brought each of us to a level of adversity that we were not perhaps ready for. With that in mind, we thought it was time for another IoH special podcast and this one is very special,” confirmed Phil.

Both guests, and Phil, recounted moments of extreme adversity that have shaped their lives in different ways and had such wonderful insight from the get-go. Covering such aspects as:

• Perception of what is adversity
• Being positive and strong is the only choice
• Adversity is not a race
• Focus on what you can do, rather than what you can’t
• You decide how you react
• Be relentless in pursuit of knowledge
• Talking openly about your adversity can really help you get past your darkest moment
• Humour can play a huge part in healing
• Find things to celebrate
• Adversity can bring strength, unity and kindness
• Adversity can recalibrate what is important
• Seeking counsel to talk things through is important but the timing of that is key
• You can see the very best of humanity in moments of adversity
• It gives you an insight into a much bigger picture of life

Phil concluded: “Talking about adversity with two major champions of the industry was an honour. I feel there are key learning points for everyone in this episode. A huge thank you to both guests, who talked so openly about their vulnerability.”
