I’m In Episode 15 – Reputation is exclusively available for IoH members to listen to today!
Where would we all be without our own reputation? It can both help and hinder you, dependent on where you are. Phil Street FIH once again enlisted the help of three fantastic IoH members to pull this subject apart and discuss how we can all build and maintain our own reputations.
Phil’s guests for this episode were Nicolas Medicamento MIH who was recently upgraded (a huge congrats to him), Kurt Macher MIH and Paul Gilley FIH.
As always, Phil asked for some insight into why they said “I’m In” to the IoH. As compelling as ever, they gave some great reasons including:-
- To support the industry
- To educate the future of the industry
- To make the industry a better place
- The events that IoH puts on
- Looking after the next generation
- Expanding their network
- Giving back wherever possible
As with most of our discussions, there was so much covered around reputation such as:-
- Building a positive reputation is, without question, an important part of success
- Honesty and integrity are hugely important when forming a reputation
- Deliver what you say you will
- Figure out what you stand for and build that foundation
- Social media can help and hinder reputation
- Learn what your values are and stay true to them
- Find your authentic voice
- Showing vulnerability is also important when it comes to developing your leadership reputation
- It’s important you adapt to cultural differences in whatever country you are in
- The company you keep is also very important in helping you build your reputation
- We should not be tolerating the things that are not good for this industry to help protect it’s reputation
- The threats are around things that can be out of your control, how you respond is the only thing you can control
- Our egos are a major threat to our reputation. How you manage that is incredibly important
- Staying grounded is important, keep focusing on the future
- Making mistakes around this is inevitable. Again, how you respond when it does can absolutely cement your reputation
A huge thank you to our guests for giving up their time and opinion, for such a fascinating discussion.
Enjoy!
