Episode 9 of our IoH I’m In Podcast is available for members today!
Today’s topic is not far away from anyone’s thoughts. As we look to continue our improvement in this vast subject matter, Phil was once again joined by three more awesome humans from the IoH membership in the form of Sian Raan AIH, Dr Maria Gebbels MIH & Robin Sheppard FIH.
Before we got stuck in to the topic, we once again learned some of the compelling reasons our guests said I’m In to the IoH including; giving back to the industry, to take hold of all the learning and opportunity as a student, staying connected with the industry, wanting to be part of something that’s bigger than themselves, the Mentor Me program and the international network.
We couldn’t hope to unpack all elements in this epic subject but we tried our best to cover some of key issues in this including:
- Diversity is the what and Inclusion is the how
- You can have one without the other but they should go hand in hand
- It can be confusing without clear definition
- Obviously being focused on Diversity cannot just be a tick box exercise
- Important that organisations such as the IOH walk the talk as many will look to them for guidance
- It can be a challenge to remain up to date, current and relevant
- We can also follow what others have done, we don’t always have to take the lead
- We can learn more from each other, across our own diverse sectors
- We all have to take responsibility to get educated
- We should shout about our successes in this area, small and large
- We need to get better at talking about everything
- Despite how it may feel sometime, we have come a long way on D&I
- We need champions of all important matters in every business
- There are wild differences from country to country around the world
As always, a huge thank you to our guests for giving up their time and opinion.
