The Institute of Hospitality has confirmed endorsement for the Five-Star Reception Services digital training course offered by The Fit Guide.
The Fit Guide is a professional standards and evaluation platform operating within the fitness and wellbeing sector. It was founded to elevate service standards, operational quality, and member experience across gyms, studios, and boutique fitness operators. The organisation draws upon cross-sector expertise from both the hospitality and fitness industries.
The Five-Star Reception Services training course is designed specifically for front desk and client-facing staff within the fitness industry. It translates five-star hospitality principles, drawn from global luxury service standards, into a practical and structured framework for gyms, studios and fitness clubs. The course is delivered online and consists of two hours of structured video-based learning with additional time required to complete the final assessment, including preparation and submission of a practical video assessment. The programme aims to develop both behavioural foundations and operational standards, enabling participants to deliver a complete five-star reception journey from first contact to retention and sales.
The Institute’s Professional Review Panel commended the programme, and, in particular:
- The logical structure of the programme and the clarity of the video content
- The support provided for candidates
- The use of QR codes gives participants the opportunity to ‘deep dive’ into a topic using podcasts
- The requirement for a video by the candidate as part of the summative assessment.
Matthew Lavender, Co-founder at The Fit Guide, said: “As the fitness industry’s first hospitality-focused training course, endorsement from the Institute of Hospitality gives our Five-Star Reception Services programme real weight. It reinforces our ambition to upskill reception teams and help elevate front-of-house service to the same high standard as the workout experience itself.”
The Institute’s CEO, Robert Richardson FIH MI added: “We are delighted to award endorsement for this specialist five-star reception services programme. It reflects the growing importance of applying hospitality principles beyond traditional settings and recognises the role that well-trained front-of-house teams play in shaping first impressions, building relationships, and supporting long-term member retention across the fitness and wellbeing sector.”
