The University of Greenwich (UoG) is a large modern university with over 28,000 students and 2,000 staff, offering approximately 1,000 different courses. The Greenwich campus is allocated in the world famous UNESCO site of the old royal naval college.
Within the university’s Business Faculty, the Marketing, Events and Tourism Department offers degree programmes in Tourism, Events and Hospitality Management, Marketing, and Public Relations. The University’s undergraduate degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management is consistently ranked as top in London. The Hospitality Programme, in particular, focuses on students’ employability and transforming skills by offering Hospitality Internship course.
The department has strong links with the industry and through the department’s research group, the Tourism Research Centre, staff carry out research and consultancy in a range of contexts. Recent research projects have included projects on tourism policy and governance, critical hospitality, hospitality career development, backpacker tourism, cultural heritage, tourism routes and trails, gender issues in tourism and hospitality, island tourism, tourism and hospitality entrepreneurship and SMEs in tourism and hospitality. The department contains a number of researchers who focus on tourism and hospitality management, with a track record of publishing journal articles, book chapters and conference papers on diverse topics within the field.
The department will be hosting 28th Council for Hospitality Management Education (CHME) Annual Research Conference in May 2019 with the theme of transforming hospitality. The department also hosts the London Office of the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA), a network of global tourism academics. The London Office is responsible for all of ITSA’s work outside of Greater China. ITSA’s mission is to connect tourism academics in the developed and developing world and this provides a unique resource with which to support this project.
