IoH Business Partner Keenan Recycling has released its Sustainability Update 2025, showcasing major progress in the nation’s transition toward a net zero, circular economy. The report highlights the company’s achievements in transforming food waste into renewable energy, cutting emissions, and driving positive social impact.Since launching its national food waste collection service, Keenan has grown from 845,000 bins in 2021 to a projected 1.5 million in 2025, a 78% increase. The company’s investment in low-carbon transport is also paying off, with almost a quarter of its fleet now running on biomethane, HVO, electric, or hydrogen power.
Through anaerobic digestion, the collected food waste generates renewable energy, that’s enough to power nearly 8,000 homes this year. Some of this energy is used to fuel Keenan’s own biomethane trucks, demonstrating a fully circular approach.
Keenan’s social and environmental initiatives continue to make an impact, including two paid volunteer days for every employee and a projected reduction of 44,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions in 2025, equivalent to 16,000 long-haul flights.
A key highlight of the year is Keenan’s partnership with Pizza Hut, which has already diverted 189 tonnes of food waste and prevented 130 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, while producing renewable energy for UK homes.
