Business Partner News | Splendid Hospitality Group Announces Major York Investment

7 July 2025

IoH Business Partner, Splendid Hospitality Group (SHG), one of the region’s leading hospitality companies, is investing tens of millions into its four York hotels, reaffirming its long-term commitment to the city’s tourism, job market and economy.

This announcement coincides with the debut of SHG’s multi-million pound refurbishment of ibis Styles York Centre. The Grade II listed hotel now includes 16 additional rooms and a refreshed design celebrating its brewery heritage.

Meanwhile, York’s only five-star hotel, The Grand, is undergoing a £2.5m spa transformation, due to complete in early 2026, followed by wider refurbishments to rooms and dining spaces.

SHG has also exchanged contracts to purchase 98 Walmgate, next to Hotel Indigo York, with plans to expand accommodation and food and beverage offerings. Additionally, SHG recently acquired 37 Tanner Row, aiming to create luxury long-stay suites with access to The Grand’s facilities.

At Holiday Inn Express York, plans are underway to add rooms and upgrade public areas with the brand’s latest design.

These developments come as York’s visitor economy continues to grow, with 2023 tourism generating £1.73 billion and over 16,000 jobs.

“York has emerged as one of the most celebrated destinations in the UK, and our investment is not just financial, it’s a commitment to creating a positive impact for the next generation and is a statement of intent,” said Nadeem Boghani, Executive Chairman of SHG.

“As a family-owned business, we are focused on creating lasting impact through regeneration, entrepreneurialism, high-quality hospitality and meaningful job creation that benefits both the local community and visitors alike. These projects reflect Splendid Hospitality Group’s deep-rooted investment and commitment to York, and our ongoing mission to support local growth and create exceptional guest experiences.”

At the ibis Styles York Centre reopening event on 26 June, local leaders and stakeholders previewed SHG’s regeneration plans and praised the group’s continued belief in York’s potential.
