With more than 20 years’ experience in hospitality, Barry’s career is a compelling example of ambition, resilience and people-led leadership. Having started his working life in the British Army before entering hospitality as a zero-hours bartender, Barry has progressed through operational and leadership roles to become Managing Director of one of Scotland’s most celebrated luxury country house hotels.
As Managing Director of Cromlix, Barry has overseen an exciting period of growth and transformation, including the property’s transition to independent operation and significant redevelopment. Under his leadership, Cromlix has achieved a host of prestigious accolades, including AA Hotel of the Year Scotland, five AA Red Stars, three AA Rosettes and a Michelin Key.
A Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality and a Master Innholder, Barry is also a graduate of Cornell University’s General Managers Program. His engaging and candid approach to leadership draws on real-world experience, with his talks exploring career development, workplace culture, resilience, service excellence and leading through periods of change.
