IoH confirms endorsement for AVM Skills Institute in Australia

19 January 2026

The Institute of Hospitality has confirmed endorsement for two qualifications delivered by AVM Skills Institute.

AVM Skills Institute specialises in delivering industry-relevant training in two high-demand sectors in Australia: Hospitality and Automotive. They offer nationally recognised qualifications from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level that are designed to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in real-world environments. AVM Skills Institute is committed to quality education, student support, and strong industry linkages.

The Certificate IV in Kitchen Management aims to qualify chefs and cooks who have a supervisory or team leading role in the kitchen. Such individuals apply a broad range of specialised knowledge and skills in varied contexts to undertake skilled work, operate independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems. Delivered over a 12 month period (1348 hours) this qualification provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops, or to run a small business in these sectors. It also acts as a pathway for further learning.

The Diploma of Hospitality Management aims to develop key skills in team leadership, operations management, budgeting, rostering, and customer service. This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of operational business decisions. Delivered over a 12 month period (1135 hours) this qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager. This qualification allows for multiskilling and for acquiring targeted skills in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage, and gaming.

The Institute’s Professional Review Panel commended the qualifications, and, in particular:

  • The coverage of hospitality / kitchen / cooking knowledge and skills from both practical and management perspectives.
  • The thoroughness and clarity of the various policies and procedures related to the programmes.
  • The expansion plans for delivery in Fiji and Timor Leste.

Darren Evans, Academic Head at AVM Skills Institute said: “We are proud to receive endorsement from the Institute of Hospitality for our Certificate IV in Kitchen Management and Diploma of Hospitality Management. This endorsement recognises that these programs meet internationally benchmarked standards for quality, relevance, and industry alignment. It reflects AVM Skills Institute’s commitment to delivering high quality hospitality education that is practical, contemporary, and aligned with global best practice.”

The Institute’s CEO, Robert Richardson FIH MI added: “We are delighted to endorse these qualifications delivered by AVM Skills Institute, which further strengthens hospitality excellence by raising professional standards in Australia. This endorsement clearly demonstrates their commitment to delivering quality training and we warmly welcome them in to our extended IoH Hospitality Family.”
