Energising and motivating, this book inspires individuals to take action in changing their attitudes, offering a humorous and encouraging perspective on how a positive attitude can impact the quality of life, relationships, and work environment.

Sam Glenn’s “A Kick in the Attitude” brings a practical guide to redefining our outlook on life, focusing on the impact of a positive outlook in transforming personal success and team dynamics. Sam Glenn, known as the ‘attitude guy,’ derives from his personal challenges a guide on his toolkit for building resilience while mixing it with humor and actionable insights to help his readers and teams face challenges with a constructive mindset.

The author’s main message is that one’s attitude is the foundation of success. He explains that attitude is something we have to develop on a daily basis. Through his stories and humor, he conveys that attitude is a choice we can make every day, and by being intentional, it can help in achieving personal growth as well as developing professional teamwork. His belief goes beyond what we commonly know as positivity; instead, he teaches that failures and setbacks are inevitable, but someone’s outlook on life defines how these setbacks can be overcome. His perspective is especially relevant for the modern work environment teaching that a strong attitude among team members can encourage collaboration, creativity, and productivity.

The book is composed of 18 principles that act as a guide in bringing fresh energy both in personal and team settings. Each principle offers small, actionable steps that make positivity both manageable and realistic. In Principle #2, ‘Transform your Attitude in the Same Time it takes to Shower,’ the author shares a simple technique, dedicating 5-10 minutes everyday can make progressive difference to the quality of our lives. By using simple, relatable examples, it makes it easy for the reader to link positivity to their daily routine.

Another principle that stands out is Principle #5, ‘Your Attitude is Either in the Way, on the Way, or Creating a Way.’ The author states that your attitude can be either a roadblock or a tool, depending on how you see it. This principle is a powerful help in teamwork suggesting that when members adopt a positive attitude, they contribute to a more helpful and solution-focused environment.

Throughout the book, the author emphasises the importance of humour’s ability to reduce stress and makes work more enjoyable. In a team setting, this attitude encourages a good working environment that minimises the possibility of tension that can happen, especially in high-pressure situations.

In Principle #10, ‘Courage is the Defining Force that Conquers Fear, Average, and Bullies,’ he connects positivity to courage, which, when practiced well, can be a source of strength when facing difficulties. For a team, this courage is important because when members feel confident in facing challenges, the group also becomes more confident. His approach to courage is practical and relatable, suggesting that when one’s outlook is strengthened, individuals can contribute to a more confident and supportive team culture.

As a whole, ‘A Kick in the Attitude’ isn’t just about pushing optimism, but about developing a resilient mindset that benefits both the individual and the team. The author’s personal stories, humour, and practical advice make his principles simple and easy to understand for anyone seeking to boost their attitude. His message is simple but impactful; he encourages the reader to make these little changes and attitude shifts a daily habit so that in the long run, their lives can be transformed.

For anyone looking for a boost in their personal outlook, ‘A Kick in the Attitude’ offers a simple yet helpful guide. The author shows that a positive attitude partnered with an intentional desire to improve daily can be key to a fulfilling life.
