Episode 8 of our IoH I’m In Podcast: is available for members today!
“For a long time, I’ve been fascinated about how we make our decisions? Are they always strategic? Does our instinct win when making the choices?” says IoH podcast host Phil Street FIH.
To explore this intriguing Instinct v Strategy topic, Phil was joined by three more wonderful humans from within the IoH membership – Luca Rapetti AIH, Debbie Pugh MIH and Peter Walker FIH.
Hearing more about why our guests said ‘I’m In’ to the IoH including discussions around – it was the right thing to do, to broaden my network, to have a positive influence on the industry, to develop myself and others, to be part of something passionate and dedicated and to get more connected within the industry.
In one of our deepest conversations so far, our guests had so much great content to share that it feels like we only scratched the surface of this subject. Ideas included:
- Setting goals and working towards them is very useful but be ready to deviate
- Experience plays a huge part in forming your instinct
- It depends on the situation as to whether you go more instinctive or strategic
- Strategy is written in a moment in time, instinct is in the moment
- It’s important to teach people to trust and make instinctive decisions
- Nail your skills and knowledge first and you will have the confidence to make strong instinctive decisions
- There are moments in your career and business when you have to use both instinctive and strategic decision making
A huge thank you to our guests for giving up their time and opinion.
