Gatwick Northern Runway – have your say

13 October 2021

Gatwick Airport has commenced its consultation on proposals to bring their existing Northern Runway into routine use. The consultation runs until 23:59 on 1 December.

Gatwick say that they need more capacity to maintain efficient operations, improve resilience and meet passenger demand. It is anticipated that by 2038 these proposals could increase Gatwick’s passenger throughput to approximately 75 million passengers per annum (mppa), compared to approximately 62 mppa which is where they would otherwise expect to be without bringing the Northern Runway into routine use.

Alongside increased connectivity and capacity, Gatwick anticipates there will also be substantial local and regional economic benefits. In the region, the Project is expected to represent an economic footprint of £1.5 billion in GVA and support 18,400 additional jobs in 2038. Further benefits would be derived from increased tourism, freight and enhanced competition.

Gatwick want everyone, whether you’re a resident, community group, business, or elected representative to tell them what you think of their plans.

Much of Gatwick’s engagement will be online and digital while 18 deposit points across the region will ensure that hard copies of all consultation documents are also available. Their Mobile Project Office will also be out on the road distributing materials to local communities.

In addition, over 100,000 properties in the inner consultation zone will have received a newsletter from Gatwick, with a summary of their proposals and the benefits that could accrue, as well as full details of how to engage with the consultation.

To learn more, please visit their  website. There you will be able to view their virtual exhibition, read all the consultation documents and complete a questionnaire. It is also where you can book a 20-minute ‘Call the Expert’ telephone slot to discuss any particular queries with the project team.

Gatwick have advised that if you have any questions, you should get in touch with them by emailing info@gatwickfutureplans.com.
