First group of Institute of Hospitality Higher Apprentices graduate at Westminster Kingsway College

The first cohort of Institute of Hospitality Higher Apprentices at Westminster Kingsway College have celebrated the completion of their courses at a graduation ceremony held in Westminster Kingsway College’s Vincent Rooms in central London. The ceremony was held for students undertaking: Institute of Hospitality Management Diplomas, Chef Apprenticeships or Supervisory Management Apprenticeships as well as the new Higher Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management. Geoff Booth FIH, Assistant Principal of the School of Hospitality at Westminster Kingsway College said: “Our graduating students from Westminster Kingsway College will go out into the industry to continue to learn new skills, to develop their careers and to promote the work of the College as they become part of the College alumni across the world. We are very proud to recognise their achievements today.”

Westminster Kingsway College is the first Institute of Hospitality Approved Centre in the UK to offer the new 18 month Higher Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management aimed at junior managers working in the hospitality industry who want to progress into senior management roles.

The winner of the Best Institute of Hospitality Higher Apprentice Level 4 Award from the first group to complete the course was Ewa Tyl from The Royal Automobile Club. Ewa started on the Level 2 Apprenticeship while working as a Linen Room Assistant before progressing to the Level 3 and Level 4 Apprenticeships as well as being promoted to Supervisor and now Head of Linen in the Housekeeping department. Ewa said: “I was supported by my managers on this course and demonstrated my customer service and management skills which helped me to progress to higher levels. The support of my colleagues and lecturers helped me too. The Apprenticeship programmes through Westminster Kingsway College have increased my confidence and given me the opportunity to show my abilities. It is hard to balance work and study but it is worth the effort to achieve your goals.”
