A new and exciting feature is set to make its debut at the Institute of Hospitality Golf Day 2025, in partnership with Meiko UK, taking place on 8 May at The Belfry.
Once all teams have completed their round and are enjoying post-game refreshments at the 19th hole, players will be called to compete in the inaugural Longest Putt Challenge. Overseen by Neil Walker, Account Director of Golf at The Belfry, the challenge will see golfers attempt a daunting 100-foot putt.
This brand-new addition to the day is proudly sponsored by the Accessible Hospitality Alliance, whose mission is to highlight the importance of inclusivity in both hospitality experiences and career development.
Robin Sheppard FIH, Chair of the Accessible Hospitality Alliance, President of Bespoke Hotels, and a former Chair of the Institute of Hospitality, shared the inspiration behind the sponsorship: “The hospitality industry does much to cater for the needs of people who live with a disability as guests and colleagues. But more could be done to improve guest experience further and make our workplaces more inclusive.
“The Accessible Hospitality Alliance is devoted to making the hospitality sector accessible for all. We aim to bring the industry together around the common goal of inclusivity, focusing on accessible workplaces and venues.
“We are under no illusion that attaining our purpose and our path forward will be easy. Inclusivity enriches society and propels innovation, economic growth, and wellbeing. Thankfully, more and more hospitality and catering businesses are embracing these principles long may that continue.”
Robert Richardson FIH MI, Chief Executive of the Institute of Hospitality, also welcomed the challenge: “I am proud to stand alongside Robin and the Accessible Hospitality Alliance team’s purpose. Designing and delivering truly inclusive experiences that resonate with every customer drives new business opportunities. In today’s competitive landscape, accessibility isn’t just a compliance requirement, it’s a key differentiator that fosters loyalty, engagement, and innovation. Accessible hospitality is good for business.”
The winner of the Longest Putt Challenge will be honoured during the evening dinner and awards ceremony, receiving a trophy and a bottle of champagne.
