Registration Opens for CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme
Major UK hospitality companies need to register for the Government’s Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme. Registration is now open until the 30 September, after which non-compliance may result in civil sanctions and fines.
All companies with at least one half-hourly electricity meter will need to register and disclose information.
Companies with an annual electricity bill of £500,000 or more will have to become participants in the scheme due to start in April 2011. This will involve monitoring their emissions and purchasing an allowance of £12 from the Government for each tonne of carbon dioxide they emit.
To register, click here with the following information ready:
- Registration address
- The names of senior officers and your contact details
- The number of half hourly electricity meters your organisation has
- The total consumption of all your half hourly meters
A free survey is available to all businesses that spend between £50,000 and £3million on energy each year. It provides the services of an energy expert on site and a tailored energy-saving action plan, which typically identifies possible savings on energy costs of between 20% and 30%.

Businesses spending less than £50,000 can access free, expert advice via a new Cut Carbon, Cut Costs online tutorial at www.carbontrust.co.uk/onlinetraining
It gives easy-to-follow video advice on how to cut energy bills and shows users how to calculate potential savings and develop a plan for achieving them.
