Launched – the new Institute of Hospitality Scotland
This year’s ScotHot saw history made, as the industry’s only professional body dedicated to supporting and enhancing careers in hospitality, tourism and leisure, launched the new arm of the Institute of Hospitality, exclusively for Scotland.
Offering a more tailor-made service specifically aimed at the needs of the industry locally, the Institute of Hospitality Scotland will provide a stronger focus to respond to various political and local initiatives – a move that will enable the Institute to contribute to the development of tourism and hospitality policies in Scotland.
On the agenda for the coming months will be a series of sector specific work shops looking at topics affecting the hospitality industry, networking events with Scottish businesses and industry leaders, updated legislative news relevant to the industry in Scotland and also a range of qualifications available to study in Scotland, with the support of the Institute.

Speaking of the launch on 3 March at ScotHot’s SECC in Glasgow, Minister for Scottish Tourism, Jim Mather, said: "At a time when our hospitality and tourism sector is facing one of its toughest challenges in many years, more than ever before it is vital to focus on education and best practice to deliver the skills we need to manage our businesses more effectively and efficiently.
“Scotland has a great story to tell, with a huge potential to attract more visitors. Here too, we will only win this business if we are offering the highest possible standards of customer care and excellent value for money. It is for these reasons that I am delighted to lend my support to the Institute of Hospitality, Scotland.
“The Institute is no stranger to the industry in Scotland, and over the years many have benefited from its support to their continuing professional development. The formation of this new, single and stronger focus for the Institute in Scotland will enable the Government to better harness its resources in support of the future development of tourism and hospitality policy within the country."
The Institute of Hospitality Scotland will host its very first event – the Annual Scottish Luncheon and AGM – at Apex Waterloo Place Hotel (Edinburgh's newest luxury hotel) on Tuesday 28 April 2009. Click here for details and to book online...
