Stress! Who Needs It!
In a recent online survey by the Institute of Hospitality we asked you if stress ever had a negative impact on your performance at work. Nearly two thirds (62%) chose ‘sometimes’ from a choice of six answers ranging from ‘never’ to ‘all the time.’
Some of you left comments, which included: “stress leaves me tired and less productive” and “usually stress comes with bad planning ahead, and that in turn happens when everyone else is stressed.”
When asked what or who causes you to feel stressed, the most commonly cited reason was excessive workload, selected by nearly one in four respondents. In second place came financial worries and in third relationship problems.
Government grants are available via Train to Gain and The Challenge Fund to tackle workplace stress. Up to £50,000 is available per company to access courses delivered by the Stress Management Society. To be eligible for the grants you must meet the following criteria:

Interested parties should contact the Stress Management Society on 0844 357 8629 or send an email to info@stress.org.uk writing ‘funded programmes’ in the subject window.
In today’s climate of cost-cutting, rewarding staff with treats or luxurious away-days is not as acceptable as it once was. An away-day with more substantial and lasting benefits is offered by Senspa, the spa at Careys Manor hotel in the New Forest, in collaboration with the Stress Management Society.
The one-day programme teaches senior executives, managers and sales professionals how to recognise and stop stress in its tracks and includes a stress management workshop, a one hour treatment, and use of the spa facilities as well as the use of a stress coaching tool for 12 months.
