TV, DVD and Copyright Music Licences

Copyright law is complex and the licencing system is far from perfect, as exemplified by the recent court ruling against Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) for overcharging thousands of pubs, hotels and restaurants for the right to play music in public areas.

The PPL has issued refund forms to an estimated 41,000 UK hotels, restaurant and pub owners.

If you are one of these hospitality operators who pays a licence to the PPL, you should have already received a letter regarding your entitlement to a refund. If NOT, it is very important that you contact PPL directly in order to make a claim.

Write to: PPL, 1 Upper James Street, London, W1F 9DE or call the PPL on: 020 7534 1000

Do you provide a DVD library for your guests? Did you know that this also requires a licence even if you do not charge your guests to watch DVDs?
