Untangling the minefield of ‘red tape’ that affects hospitality business operations in the UK, the British Hospitality Association’s Martin Couchman will provide an update on current and forthcoming legislation.
Hear the Institute of Hospitality’s Philippe Rossiter clarify the qualifications mix, and explain why a focus on continuing professional development in career management remains vital as we contemplate the post-recessionary world.

Gareth Edwards from Springboard will shed light on career promotions, work-placed training, the part the 14-19 Diplomas have to play in filling troublesome skills shortages, and engaging with schools to capture and retain talent at an early age.

The event will also feature a presentation from South West Tourism with a specific focus on tourism and skills, and demonstrating why business and leadership capabilities are key to supporting the region’s growth aspirations.

Finally, Ken Crosland from Hospitality Action, the industry’s own charitable organisation which seeks to improve the lives of our less fortunate colleagues, will provide a vital and valuable insight into the management challenges which arise from drug and alcohol abuse by staff.

Based on the style of the Master Innholders’ popular, annual General Managers’ Conference, these morning Management Briefings are designed to deliver digestible and practical information tailored to a specific region, essential to any hotelier, Departmental or General Manager.

The event will run from 10am – 1pm, with a light lunch to follow. At just £35 + VAT per person, including refreshments, briefing materials and lunch, this Management Briefing presents exceptional value, and is open to all who work in the hotel sector.

Keep an eye out if you are not in the South West region for similar briefings being held in other regions:

  • 21 May - The Belmont Hotel, Leicester
  • 25 May - Cameron House, Loch Lomond, Scotland
