The HAVE Scheme

Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Adding Value for Employability

Work experience is a vital part of the learning experience for any student. Understanding the workplace, business and industry are essential components that contribute to a successful educational experience.

Employers can help students to optimise their work experience through good practice and assistance in reflecting on the skills and knowledge acquired in training. Summer holiday work is a time when most students will gain work experience, and most now work part-time as well, to support themselves whilst studying. In this context, the HAVE Scheme provides meaningful support to work experience for university and college students.

HAVE supports students on work placement or work experience who work part-time in the hospitality, leisure, and tourism industries. The HAVE Information Pack and Personal Portfolio enables students to:

  • assess their own employability skills and personal attributes
  • learn how to reflect on and develop their skills and attributes
  • learn how to evidence their development and strengths to a prospective employer
(e.g. in a curriculum vitae, job application or interview).

The HAVE Scheme has gained support from a wide range of organisations including:
The Department for Children, Families and Schools (DCFS)
The Savoy Educational Trust
The Higher Education Academy Network for Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism.
